The difference our supporters made for wild animals in September

Thanks to the kindness and compassion of our supporters, September was another month of hope for wild animals facing enormous challenges. Together, we were able to respond to urgent crises, provide lifesaving care and support dedicated conservation partners working tirelessly to protect some of the world's most vulnerable species.

Here are just some of the ways your generosity helped make a difference throughout September.

South Africa – Limpopo

Helping Mohli receive the specialist care she needs

Thanks to our supporters, orphaned leopard cub Mohli is receiving the expert care and rehabilitation she needs to one day return to the wild. Credit: Indlulamithi Wild Big Cat Sanctuary.

Three-month-old leopard cub Mohli was orphaned when her mother was killed by farmers in South Africa, leaving her unable to survive in the wild. She was found starving, severely dehydrated and desperately ill after being caught in a farmer’s trap.

Thanks to your generosity, we are able to support our partner, Indlulamithi Wild Big Cat Sanctuary in Limpopo, as it provides Mohli with expert veterinary care and nutritious food. We are still working to reach our $21,000 (£15,800) goal to provide the soft-release enclosure she needs to learn the skills her mother would have taught her. Mohli must learn to hunt, stalk prey and avoid danger before she can return to the wild.

Your support is helping give this young leopard a chance to grow into the wild animal she was meant to be. Thank you for helping give Mohli a fighting chance at the life she deserves.

Ukraine – Kyiv

Giving Electra compassion and a chance to heal

Your donations are helping Electra receive the specialized care she needs to heal and grow stronger. Credit:  (WARC).

Rescued from a war zone in Ukraine, young tiger Electra arrived at our partner, Wild Animal Rescue Centre (WARC) in Kyiv, severely malnourished and unable to walk after being kept as a pet. The damage to her spine was so serious that veterinarians feared she might never stand again.

But with dedicated care and treatment, Electra has begun to defy those early expectations. Each small improvement is an important step forward for this young tiger.

Thanks to your generosity, Electra is receiving specialized veterinary treatment, proper nutrition and round-the-clock care. Encouragingly, she has made progress and can now stand, but her recovery is far from over. She still faces a long road ahead and needs continued specialist care to build her strength and mobility.

Thank you for helping Electra heal and giving her the care and dignity she deserves.

Supporting Lihawu’s recovery

Thanks to our donors, we are covering two months' worth of orphaned rhino calf Lihawu’s nutrition and care. Credit: CFW

Ten-month-old white rhino calf Lihawu was left orphaned after poachers killed his mother, leaving him alone and vulnerable in the South African bush.

At an age when he should still have been protected and cared for by his mother, Lihawu was instead fighting to stay alive. Found dangerously dehydrated, hypothermic and too weak to lift his head, he needed urgent care to survive.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, our partner, Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary (CFW), was able to provide the intensive treatment Lihawu needed, and he is now on the road to recovery. His journey will take at least six months, with ongoing care, nutrition and veterinary support needed to help him grow stronger.

Thank you for helping give this precious young rhino the care, safety and chance at life he so desperately needed.

South Africa – Northern Cape

Helping Fouross with his rehabilitation

Our supporters helped rescued and injured pangolin Fouross receive the intensive veterinary care and protection he needed to recover and return to the wild. Credit: KWP

Fouross, a Temminck’s ground pangolin, was found limping through the bush in South Africa’s Northern Cape with a badly wounded hind leg after being caught in a poacher’s wire snare. For this gentle, vulnerable animal, the injury could have been fatal without urgent specialist care.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our partner, Kalahari Wildlife Project (KWP), provided Fouross with pain relief, antibiotics, veterinary treatment and the quiet recovery time he needed to heal and return to a protected wild area. Your donations also covered a vital VHF tag so we can carefully monitor him during his release.

Thank you for standing with Fouross when he needed it the most. Your compassion is giving this precious animal a second chance at life in the wild.
