Rescued elephant Pun had every one of her babies ripped away

Pun has endured a lifetime of heartbreak, trapped in a hideous elephant breeding program.

She was forced to become pregnant over and over again, having her babies stolen from her and sold into the Thai tourist industry, to be used for rides and photo opportunities. To make the elephants submissive for this industry, young calves have their spirits broken and are brutally beaten so they obey commands out of fear.

Thailand is notorious for such programs, which are horribly cruel and cause trauma no mother or baby should ever endure.

Pun endured this decade after decade, until our partner, Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), intervened and rescued her and one of her daughters before their cruel captors could separate them.

Sadly, her daughter, who was just a year old at the time of rescue, later died, and since then, Pun has struggled to find companionship.

Lonely and heartbroken, all we want for Pun is friendship and love. Will you help?

After years of loss, Pun now finds it difficult to trust others and is frightened of other elephants. But with time, patience and the right environment, Pun will hopefully rediscover what it means to be an elephant and even find a place in a herd.

Trauma such as Pun endured takes time to heal, and the sooner her healing can begin, the better. With careful introductions, made possible through neighboring elephant enclosures, it may be possible for sweet Pun to form a friendship with another rescued elephant, and experience the companionship she so deeply deserves.

But to make this dream a reality, we need your help.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings Pun one step closer to a bigger home and the chance of friendship. Will you help her today?

Pun’s future is in the hands of animal lovers like you. Can she count on your support today?
